Just got a lease back, all marked up with the tenant's comments. And she's outraged, and wants changes right away.
This is for a lease I prepared last July.
If you wait 7+ months to get it back to me, it's not going in my URGENT pile, sorry.
Quick look reveals that it's another case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. She thinks she knows what she's talking about, but doesn't. And it's always more work to explain why they're being an idiot, and convince them that they're an idiot, than to just give in to the idiot's idiotic demands.
'This should be in this other section, not here', for example. Well, maybe, but this is our standard form of lease, and it's standard so we know where to find everything. And it's pretty standard across the industry, surprisingly enough. Arranging things as each individual tenant would like them -- all 3,000+ of ours -- no. We're not doing that.
Another section we deleted, as it's all about Security Deposits. She marked it all up, saying she did pay a deposit, it was so much, it is to be applied towards last month's rent, blah blah blah. Well, I know you paid a rental deposit. That's why it's in a section called Rental Deposit. We crossed off Security Deposit because a Security Deposit is different than a Rental Deposit, and you didn't pay a Security Deposit. Make sense? Now shut up.
