Both happy and sad about Uniqlo's Canadian expansion. Happy because it'll be a lot easier for me to buy my Uniqlo, and sad because it'll be less special now, and everyone will have access to it. Everyone will be wearing my shit.
Target Canada offers lessons for Uniqlo's Canadian expansion
Yeah, I don't think Uniqlo will have the same problems. It's keenly aware of delivering its full retail experience -- it's why they haven't opened in Chicago for years, just waiting for the right space (and even then, taking even more time to do that space up right).
Muji, OTOH, is a disappoint. It's still having bare shelves, well after opening. Oddly, it seems that their entire stock is shipped direct from Japan, and not through their US distribution system. Surely, it's easier for them to fill the one store through the US system than to put everything on a slow boat and wait for it to get here.
Muji's clothes are a total bust for me, and I assume a lot of Canadians. Tiny little Japanese hipster frames only. Uniqlo is a lot better with that, even though there are still size issues, depending.
But my God -- online ordering from Uniqlo. That's a fucking DREAM. I can't wait.
