Well, there's a line which could choke a horse:
Ashley Smith: Corrections Canada rejects key inquest recommendation
Jury recommended that 'indefinite solitary confinement' be abolished
Regarding solitary confinement, the Correctional Service of Canada rejected the call for abolition, and defended their current practice by saying:
"The legislation and policy surrounding segregation is very rigorous. Decision-makers are held to the highest standards of accountability."
Remind me again -- who was held accountable for the homicide of Ashley Smith?
The four guards who were charged had those charges dropped, and all were reinstated. Senior management, which gave the order not to intervene, never faced any disciplinary action at all.
"Highest standards of accountability"? Please.
