Man, Revenue Canada is doing everything they can to shift you away from filing your taxes on paper.
Sure, I'm a bit of a luddite, but I'm a firm believer that you can see mistakes on paper that aren't apparent onscreen. Doing it on paper, with everything spread out on the table before me, gives me something of a spatial sense of the relationships in play, that this connects to that, that connects to this, and so on.
I understand what I'm doing better. It's that simple.
But man, is the gubmint not making it easy for you to do that.
Plus, I like being a bit of a pissant. "You want to see my receipts? Fine. Here are my receipts."
There's a finality to stuffing a package in a mailbox which you just don't get by hitting 'send'. It's the same part of me that enjoys playing pinball a hell of a lot more than video games. It's a physical thing, dammit.
So that's this weekend's plan. First step: clearing the dining room table. That may take a while.
