So the ceeb is starting up with The Book of Negroes tonight. I know it's one of those things it's Important to watch, but... Yeah. I'm not sure I'm up for it. And yes, I know I'll probably never read the book.
Supporting Important ideas is something I should do, of course. I know it's one of those things I should do.
But my vat of outrage is running dry these days, especially for historical outrage. Even watching the Frontline report last night on the NRA, and its successful defeats of gun control measures in the wakes of Columbine and Sandy Hook -- I can't get worked up about any of it anymore.
It didn't use to be this way. I could find outrage for anything. Now I have outrage fatigue. Maybe it's a post-9/11 thing. Maybe I realized that it doesn't change anything anyway. Maybe I just want to make it through the day with a minimum of fuss and maybe there's nothing wrong with that.
