Just got word from Amazon. Season 3 of Girls will be arriving on my doorstep January 12th.
The season finished last March. Last year it ended at the same time, and we only had to wait until August.
It's ridiculous. HBO seems to have no idea how the internettes work. If you don't want people to pirate your shows, fine, but lots of people simply aren't going to wait ten months. You have to be timely in giving them the legitimate alternative.
I get international broadcast schedules and all that, but -- c'mon. You're making money off of the DVDs, too. Those who buy the DVDs were probably never going to be your subscribers, anyway. If I didn't subscribe for the Sopranos, I'm sure as hell not going to subscribe for Girls.
I gave up on Boardwalk Empire for just this reason. Season 1 DVDs didn't come out until after Season 2 had ended. I had to keep myself in the vault for so long that I just lost interest altogether.
I just don't get it. Why would someone now wait AND pay?
Keeping away from spoilers is bad enough at the time of broadcast. By releasing season 2 at the time season 3 starts up, you have a whole new wave of spoilers in the form of recaps prepping for season 3. Bah.
