So more people are posting to Cort's FB page, offering condolences. One woman, apparently a college friend, flat out asked "What happened?"
Well, yeah. That's what we all want to know.
No answers yet. No obit, nothing in the news, nothing on the store's site about the forthcoming plans.
Thinking about this (I've been consumed by this, for God-knows what reason), I'm guessing that it wasn't some trigger event, but rather a longstanding condition that came to the fore because whatever.
I'm certainly no expert, but suicide attempts are rarely 'successful' on the first try, right? So either there was a history of attempts preceding this, or it was a first attempt that went horribly wrong, and actually worked.
It could be anything -- a miscalculation, meds gone wrong -- who knows?
(I'm also wondering if there's anything to be read in the length of time between the actual DOD of Thursday, and breaking the news 'only' on Sunday. A late discovery? Probably -- otherwise plans would be more advanced than they are now. And a late discovery would really imply an unusual, unexpected act.)
The possibility that it was a longstanding condition is somewhat comforting, if that's the word. A random, one-off freak event seems unspeakably cruel. The end to a longstanding problem seems like a relief.
Given her BFF's saintly attitude on this, I'm leaning towards the latter, a long history that was kept well-hidden. Not that it makes it any less sad or tragic, but it would make it understandable. And trying to make sense of this at all is a very difficult task.
