So my view count on OKC is steadily dropping, down to 120 per 24 hrs, now.
I know that view counts raise when you put more into the system -- messaging people, editing your profile, adding pictures, answering questions. Fine. And I've done that, and have pretty much maxed out my contributions. I could answer more questions, but they get super-stupid and more than a little insulting around the 700 question mark, like "Do you think people in the country are not as smart as people in the city?" Seriously? Is this a serious question?
As for messaging women, I try for one a day, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. Certainly, nothing in my fair city. That well is dry.
However, and I'm sure completely coincidentally, my dropping view count is also met by a blue halo around the "BOOST ME" button. I thought the Boost Me button was a simple extra, and it is, but the blue throbbing halo was a comped, trial-period extra. Nope. Just a simple extra. I can pay fifteen bucks a month (on top of my fifteen bucks 'Premium Account') to increase my view count, and reach more potential mates. So -- double what I'm paying now, and make it about the same as my monthly cable bill.
And no thanks. It's hard to fork out extra when you know you're being deliberately manipulated and taken advantage of. Will that mean a low view count, with all that implies? Yes, absolutely. But is there that much talent out there to reach? Will I be throwing good money after bad? Probably.
It's such a miserable experience overall. Trying to find someone is hard enough, but when the system supposed to help you is deliberately working against you, things get worse, not better. Unless you pay more, of course. You're opening yourself emotionally, and here comes Capitalism strolling in to get its share. It's a creepy and nauseating experience all round. Emotional extortion.
And when the money level gets to be what it is, I'd rather buy Netflix. Keep chasing this thing of doubtful success, or go for the sure things of single enjoyment? Not much of a contest.
In summary, and as I've said numerous times before, online dating is the worst. The Worst.
