Aha! The library has come through with a copy of Billy Liar! Tom Courtenay, Julie Christie...
Tom was on fire just then, 1963. Young Tom was simply incredible, and this looks to be exemplary of just that. (Old Tom is... problematic. I'm looking at you, The Dresser.)
Goddamn. She's a crush I inherited from Dad, her and Romy Schneider. But 60s Julie Christie which I haven't yet seen? This is going to be a real treat.
I also have Darling in the queue. I've seen it once before, in high school. It's really what made my Julie Christie thing into a thing, after seeing her in Zhivago. Darling was a whole different level entirely. I'm still not sure I didn't dream the whole thing.
If my love life is going to exist purely in the level of fantasy, I might as well go all the way for the totally unobtainable, given the constraints of our time-space continuum.
Laurence Fuckin' Harvey!
I'm really thinking that I only dreamt this movie -- something this fabulous can't possibly exist. It's like it was made for me in a lab.
