So Richard Linklater is one of my favourite directors, and has been for quite a while. I still haven't seen Boyhood, although I desperately want to -- it was in limited run here, and, frankly, I rarely do that kind of movie length out in public. If I can wait for the library DVD and spread it over two nights, so much the better.
But yeah. Linklater. The Before series, Waking Life, all of that. And the best movie ever made about high school, Dazed and Confused.
It's easy to write it off as a stoner comedy, but maaaaaaan, is it ever more than that. It seems to be the only high school movie which comes even close to getting it right -- the sheer awfulness next to the life-affirming highs, the exclusion next to belonging. It's almost too much to take.
Today I learned that Linklater is releasing a movie this year, a 'spiritual sequel' to D&C, but set in college.
This will be too much for me to take. I cannot wait. Simply cannot.
