So the 'traditional medicine' side won today. I was expecting that.
Judge rejects application to take aboriginal girl from family for chemo
To paraphrase Spock, if you allow someone a choice, you must allow them to choose wrongly.
And yeah -- this choice of 'traditional medicine' isn't the right one. As a wise friend of mine once said, "If alternative medicine worked, they would just call it 'medicine'". And making vegetable smoothies in a blender? Healthy, but I doubt it'll make your cancer go away. Probably feed it, like oxygen to a fire, actually.
I am well aware of the larger socio-political ramifications of taking an aboriginal child from her parents' care. Which is probably why the court acted the way it did.
Still -- wrong choice. But their choice. I just hope it has a happier ending than I expect it will.
Yeah, I've seen this movie too many times. When it comes to cancer, all you can do is trust in science, and hope for the best. If you're not even going to trust in science, you don't have a chance.
