Statement: Carly Lake is an interdisciplinary artist working in the field of editorial illustration. Her aesthetic revolves around things she sees in the outdoors (plants, animals, communities, ecology) and how these objects, spaces, and systems relate to the internal human experience. In her art practice she is most interested in fostering experiences that inspire a sense of relationship to place, planet, and self, calling upon the viewer to delve into their own metaphysical interactions with their environment. Drawing the forms of the natural world, which is so often inspired by the diverse Los Angeles landscape, puts her in a meditative place. She depends on her connection to the natural world, not only for physical resources, but for human connection because the natural world holds the power of a universal language.
