When confronting the nature of reality, we are forced to reconcile the grotesque and the horrifying with the beautiful and sublime. There is no clean, clear border that separates good from evil, right from wrong—our own bodies and minds regularly betray us, overwhelmed by the world around them. Developing the strength to face this tangled, messy reality requires seeing the beauty in the horror, and staring it dead in the face.
