I bought this machine 2 weeks ago, I've been cleaning it and fixing as much as I can. I've grown very fond of it. As I was cleaning it I found the name W. HOLT roughly engraved on the back, I've probably spent more money making this thing work than what I paid for it, and countless hrs trying to get it to work, I couldn't help but to write Mr. Holt a letter, as the first thing I did with this Royal. I'll keep it in my desk, hopefully it serves to write many stories and films in years to come.
Dear Mr. Holt,
I'm currently in possession of your forme typewriter. I'm assuming it is your sick i found your name engraved on the back plate. i rightfully bought it at an antique store, but the owner was unable to shite some light as of your whereabouts. I sencerelly hope that it was your will for this machine to find me.
I found your QUIET DELUXE in a very bad state, rusted , with more than one of the keys not working . THE MAGIC TRADE MARGING SYSTEM was completely detached and you could barely read the letters on the keyboard, they were all covered in white dirt. I waste easy but you will be pleased to know that you made a very fine investment as all the rust and dirt were meticulously washed* away your ROYAL came back from the dead and here I am 66 years later writing to you with her.
It is a very peculiar thing to write to someone when you don't know if they're alive or dead. I don't consider myself a romantic but even I can see the poetry in this. All I can say is : I'll do my best to keep your machine on a good state and type as many "things" as I can.
In hopes this letter finds you well
