Is Monday gettin’ all up in your mix and making you feel sad and blue? Don’t worry Janine - it’s #FunkMongerMonday ! Today’s funk comes all the way from #losangeles in the form of the shape wranglin’ Erin D Garcia.
It’s the 33rd week of #FunkMongerMonday - can you believe it? Each week I’ve been choosing one of my favourite artists and shoutin’ out loud about ‘em on a Monday morning so that those pesky Monday blues get beaten like five dozen eggs. This week I wanted to shout out loud about Erin D Garcia because his work makes me wanna peep three beeps and leap three Jeeps.
I stumbled across Erin’s work a while ago and I remember the moment clearly. I was a tiny flightless bird of a man, with two wooden feet and huge, peculiar ears. I was stumbling through a forest. Was it a forest? It might have been a kitchen. Anyway, I was stumbling - that’s the important part. I was in a canoe too, but that bit isn’t too important. I canoed over to a sinister looking fella with curls in his hair and spoons for hands and he told me a tale about the meaning of life.
He said that every day, a man by the name of Erin draws and paints shapes and colours, and that one day those images will reveal the answer to every question imaginable. The wise man told me that Erin has been working on this distillation process for three thousand years, and every piece of work he produces brings him closer to a moment of revelation. Then that wise man took my canoe and left me barefoot and pregnant in the desert, or something.
I’m a huge fan of the work that Erin produces - it makes my soul feel good and my eyes feel feelings. If you haven’t checked him out before then make sure you do - he’s up to so much funk that you’d need a wheelbarrow to move it about. Don’t take my word for it though - get to it now! Don’t make me take your canoe!
