Is Monday gettin’ all up in your mix and making you feel sad and blue? Don’t worry Cornelius - it’s #FunkMongerMonday ! Today’s funk comes all the way from everybody's favourite cardboard skeleton - Skeletoncardboard.
It’s the 29th week of #FunkMongerMonday - how cool is that? Cooler than two tip-tops glued together - that’s how cool. For this week’s feature I wanted to hoot and holler about one of the more mysterious characters on my list of favourite makers and shakers - Skeleton Cardboard.
Now, I have no idea who or what Skeleton Cardboard is. It could be a horse. It could be two horses. It might be a fella called “The Colonel” who works part-time in Wilkinson’s but dreams of working full-time in Wilkinson’s. Hell, it could even be three horses. Whoever and whatever is behind Skeleton Cardboard isn’t important - what’s important is the funk that’s being dished out all over the shop in the form of skulls, bones and awesome raw hand-crafted typography. The visual style is so bold and unique that you’ll start looking at it and your face will turn into two cauliflowers who will start angrily arguing with each other and then angrily agreeing with each other. Tremendous.
The difficult part of this feature was deciding what images to use, as Skeleton Cardboard is such a super prolific and productive being. In the end I decided to go for these ones here as they make me feel feelings and remember a time when wood came from trees and trees came from woods.
If you ain’t heard of Skeleton Cardboard then I suggest you go and wash your face in cold water, have a stern word in the mirror, and then go and check it out. You’ll be glad that you did. You might even buy a packet of sunflower seeds to celebrate. Whatever seeds you wanna buy just make sure that you polish them eyes and roll ‘em in Skeleton Cardboard’s direction first. Okay?!
