Is Monday gettin’ all up in your mix and making you feel sad and blue? Don’t worry Gordon - it’s #FunkMongerMonday ! Today’s funk comes all the way from #Portland in the form of the awesome illustrator and artist Zach Johnsen.
Now, I’ve been a huge Zach Johnsen fan ever since I saw a pair of Osiris shoes that featured his art way back around 2007(ish). Man oh man I wanted those shoes! I was 16 years old and did as many odd jobs as possible for a bit of cash. By the time I had enough money for the shoes they didn’t have my size in stock and weren’t ordering any more in so I had to take two sizes up and wear three pairs of socks. I must have looked ridiculous but I didn’t care - I finally had the shoes! I wanted to feature Zach in this week’s #FunkMongerMonday because, along with maxneutra, he was one of the artists that had a huge influence on me when I was younger, and made me want to pursue a career where I could make things and throw shapes. In fact, I remember spending hours trying to work out why his line drawings looked so tight when they overlapped and mine looked like a big heap of spaghetti. Zach is an awesome artist, so if you’re not aware of him then go and check him out like a checkered shirt. Check out the marvellous Louis Logic too - Zach created this artwork for his album #LookOnTheBlightSide and you should get a copy quicker than a quick slick Lego brick. I bought a copy because I recognised the album art, but since then I’ve bought #MiseryLovesComedy and Sin-a-matic and couldn’t recommend ‘em enough!
