a letter to my grandfather,
i am writing to you today do ask you a simple question. do you like who i have become? do you like the young woman i have grown to be? how about the actions i have taken? the marches i have joined? are you angered by my views? are you mad at my love of equality? women's rights? TRANS rights? do i upset you because i do not believe in you?
please let me explain my curiosity. how do you live in hate? how can you express your love for your children, but disrespect another's child because they are different? are you happy living in your lonely and broken down world? where everything is set 70 years prior? i wonder if you could love me even though i am in love with a man of another ethnicity.
i will not apologize for my views, but i will apologize for this: i am sorry that i cannot stand beside you and love you like the others do. i cannot turn a blind eye to your hate and pretend that all is well. i will always love my family, but only so long as you love me. and grandpa? i am the embodiment of whay you hate.
your forgotten granddaughter
