Useless Thought Of The Day.
The other day I was talking to a Russian friend who told me that as huge as Russia is, there were no distinct regional accents, just small differences in the way a few words were pronounced, but no real accents. I thought this was interesting. I would think accents develop naturally. Venezuela is the size of Texas and there are 4 distinct accents, for example. Maybe Russian is a strict language that doesn't leave space for accents to develop. I dunno.
