Consider this. A publicist sent me an @ on Twitter saying they like my book! And so they would like to work with me. First thing I did of course was go to look at their Twitter profile. What do I see there? All their tweets are IDENTICALLY WORDED @ messages to other authors. Dozens in a row. Hmm.
a) They aren't actually interested in my book. (In fact looking at the names it seems they messaged every author whose book was reviewed that week in Publishers Weekly.) Is it a good thing in a publicist to lie for attention? Hm.
b) They aren't very knowledgable about Twitter OR they're very clueless about how it looks to carpet dozens of people with identical messages. OR they're depending on authors hiring them who know even less.
c) They think carpet bombing/spamming is an effective strategy for success.
d) No way in hell are they getting my business.
