Bio: Born and raised in Nashville, TN, Chloé Meyer currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA. Her color palette reflects her Southern upbringing filtered through a California lens. This unique perspective is evident in her love of brilliant color. Meyer came to San Francisco to pursue a career in fashion and ultimately left the corporate world to earn her fine arts education from City College of San Francisco and San Francisco Studio School.
The first time I encountered patriarchy in art school was when my painting teacher told me it was impossible for me to create abstract expressionist paintings that were happy. In this traditionally male genre, AbEx paintings are aggressive, my male teacher explained. Never one to shy away from a challenge, I made it my goal to prove AbEx paintings could be imbued with positive feelings. One of the ways I achieved this was fully embracing my femininity. I incorporated the use bright colors, especially those traditionally thought of in American culture as being “for girls” like pink. Being a woman is wonderful! I celebrate my feminine experience and am happy to share it with the world.
