My name is Cindy and I am an artist based in Los Angeles, CA. My work is material-driven and labor-intensive in process yet minimal in aesthetic. This tension, along with the exploration of gravity’s influence on material as a foundation and guide, is what drives my art practice. Individual pieces serve as studies on curves, drape, weight, and movement, combining to create new forms that reinterpret traditional techniques in rope-making and metalsmith.
In the making of one piece, thousands of feet of natural fibers will run through my hands as I construct rope from thread. This effort is inherently intertwined with the physical transformation of the object: from thread to rope, and from rope to sculpture. The interaction between energy and material results in work that champions not only the process behind it, but also the tactile nature of fiber art.
