"Artificial Selection". A piece created with Oil, acrylic and 22-carat gold sheets on canvas (80x100 cm).
"To create this work I have been inspired by Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring and the concept of contemporary human and nature. The nature has its "natural selection" but we have transformed those processes by artificial ones. It is a situation that the human being experiences, in which changes the natural by artificial, in the food, in the aesthetics, in the customs ...
With the girl surrounded by natural flowers, I wanted to represent that she finally decides to stay with a plastic flower.
It happens to us many times ... a friend shows you his cell and says "look at that definition, how good is that photo of the landscape" and I think ... "why do we want that, if we have that landscape to few kilometers away and the authentic experience is to see it live?". We settle for the "artificial" when we are really surrounded by the "natural" and sometimes we do not want to see it.
