La Cueva Lake is part of a group of lakes known as the Lakes of Saliencia, near the valley with the same name in the Somiedo Natural Park. The remains of the service road of the dismantled Santa Rita mine are still visible on the northern side. This mine operated between 1956 and 1978 being extracted about 70.000 tons of mineral per year, mostly iron.
