The world around us is rich with pattern. Almost everything imaginable is created of repeating subunits, through space and time. Chemical elements create all physically interacting bodies, cells collaborate to make animals, and regular behaviors define personalities. I work in Black and White because ink media stands in contrast to the kaleidoscopic world we pass through daily. Similar to how a computer draws curved lines from 0's and 1's, I seek to create flow, tension, friction, and continuity with art that can be functionally reduced (by a scanner) to on/off pixels. In my waking life, I am a 5th year PhD student in Ecology & Evolution at Stanford University. Drawings mostly happen at night.
