Meat City is one of those buildings that I would see on my way to work driving down Michigan Ave. It's in an area just past Corktown in Detroit. Perhaps it's the visual of a city made of meat or it's advertised discount pricing that appealed to me. I'd stop for gas the next block over and sometimes I'd get out to take photos around the area.
Several years later in 2011 the building was resprayed black. No graffiti. Why? it was a new clubhouse for the Detroit Highwaymen since the previous one further down Michigan Ave was closed.
A few years prior, an FBI investigation arrested 40 members of the club on a number of charges including racketeering, murder for hire, assault, police corruption, cocaine trafficking, vehicle theft, and mortgage and insurance fraud.
Since the change in ownership it's one of the best maintained buildings on the block.
