This will be the only long(my idea of long) post in this series, I promise.
Background: I'd been playing around with the idea of starting some kind of clothing line for awhile. But then what do I start right? Either something comes to you or you force yourself to think of 100 ideas every day; some horrible and unrealistic yes, but then there are those that may work. I think that's what being a creator/entrepreneur does to you, that drive, that motivation.
Now at that time about a year ago I was in Boston, working in the hospitality industry. See I enjoy city life, going to Denver, New York, Las Vegas, and meeting people, making friends, the attractions and don't get me started on the night life.
Fast forward, shit happens in life and you may end up starting from the bottom. Everyone goes through tough times in life so I wont go into mine, besides it's about what come out of the destruction that matters most. I end up in living in Las Vegas and starting from scratch. 6 months later I decide to revisit those ideas of starting my clothing line and BAM! NEW LIFE.
Living in Denver for 21yrs and Boston for 3 and New Mexico for 1 and now Las Vegas, I realized that every city has it's own hustle and bustle. It's own vibe and history and type of people. I wanted to conceptualize that in a minimal way but still make it fun and approachable. Couple that with our love of self; some call it self portraits, others selfies, I thought It'd be fun to reverse cities on a shirt. And low and behold, now I love seeing the looks on the faces of passerby's trying to decipher the message and be surprised at the elegant simplicity of it all. Or when someone strikes up a conversation about my Boston shirt, or my Denver shirt and we talk about where we're from and what it's like there.
Now, P O L I T A N is born.
With this series I had one goal: do fashion different. And since I love Roy Lichtenstein's work I asked myself; 'What would Roy do?' LMAO it sort of went like that. But really I had to figure out a creative and cost effective way to create a look book. And this is what I came up with. So join us for a soft release of the P O L I T A N line and don't be afraid to say hi.
