My work is concerned with how the internet and technology has changed the way we perceive the everyday. I start out my work by creating imagined spaces in 2D or 3D modeling programs using found images, personal photographs, and 3d models; These imagined landscapes are 3D virtual reality collages that build on the Duchampian legacy of the ready-made and the collage. This process allows me to create a truly unique reality that can then be drawn upon as source material for oil and tablet paintings.
My work picks and chooses styles and techniques based on what I feel the painting needs I treat my brushwork as a kind of conversation with the surface of the painting. when looking at one of my paintings you will see thick impasto large gestural marks and paint built up in glazes depicting highly detailed surfaces. The range of techniques that can only be created with oil paint allows the painting to transcend the purely illustrative to communicate my own inner self in relation to my subject which raises important questions about the role of the self in a technological world.
