Today I am receipt of an official letter from the school committee reminding me that only (union) certified teachers can legally tutor students in Rhode Island. This is a continuation of a battle that started last year....my granddaughter's History teacher is young and VERY "progressive", and spews a lot of leftist bilge with her "history" course. So i started arming my granddaughter with enough facts and references to debate & refute a lot of what the teacher asserts. By the end of the year half of her class was coming by my house on wednesday nights to discuss what They'd "learned" in history class. We had fantastic, free-wheeling discussions, debates, and great times. This young teacher achieved by accident what many teachers never do....she (and her negative on America views) ignited a passion to learn in a gaggle of high-school girls,
I have already heard from some of the girls (and a few parents) to find out if we can do it again this year. My lawyer tells me I'm safe as long as I'm not charging a fee. But hell, i enjoy it! I only wish I'd have been in the classroom when the teacher had to back off some of her uglier assertions.
I haven't yet decided whether i'm going to continue with my little seminars....my granddaughter is no longer in that class.
A note to parents and grandparents, legal guardians, or anyone else who has a child in school....monitor closely what they're being "taught".
