An older piece, entitled Thugs Scaling The Moral High Grounds
Here's what I wrote about then:
This piece was created on May Day, 2015. It is composed of images from old LIFE magazines. One is a photo of the investiture of Franco's son in Spain. The other is a photo of farmers in Italy protesting the defaulting of their government on land reform. As it happens, May Day this year comes while the city of Baltimore, MD has erupted in protest over the death of Freddie Gray at the hands of the police, and it is a grim re-enactment of the actions that followed the assassination of MLK Jr. over 40 years ago, in 1968, in that very same city, on those very same streets. Since that civil unrest, the people living in the inner city of Baltimore have been punished with institutionalized disrespect and summarily disenfranchised. I lived and worked in this city, teaching art in those neighborhoods. This piece is in honor of the loss there.
As we are all 'thugs' in these times of resistance and persistence, it is still apt. Sadly.
