I love life and part of life is death. After all, we’ve all been dead before and we will be again. Some of my friends say derisively that I’m obsessed with death, but I don’t see it as a bad thing. I don’t romanticize or fetishize death; I seek to come to terms with it. This is one of many “self portraits”—this one sketched out in about 10 minutes with graphite pencil; lined, colored, and detailed with ink pen; then punched up with a digital gouache effect created in Photoshop.
