The Love of Art.
Until the age of 19 I grew up poor. I slept on friends couches in high school while working multiple jobs. I got a starter camera and took pictures in a friends back yard in all the free time I had.
Fast forward to 21 and I had landed a pretty great job that was moving me to England. I hadn’t been out of the state much let alone out of the country. I was pretty shocked.
Once I moved I got a bonus from work and decided I needed to pay myself back for the hard work I had put in, I spent this bonus on a entry level full-frame camera for about $1200. This was the most expensive thing I had ever bought in my life. I then bought a plane ticket to Australia for 21 days and put the rest into savings.
This trip set me on a war path. A path to show people that you can have a full time job and afford to travel. That if you love art you still have time and money to create if you’re smart about it. You don’t need to be rich or famous. With enough love for something you can make it happen.
Over the next two years I used all my vacation days, and 1/4 of my paycheck every month to travel somewhere to take pictures and learn about their culture. $500 a month got me to unimaginable places. It’s been my goal ever since to show people where $500 can get you and the experiences it can buy you.
Here is my work from those 2 years. Each photo was taken with an entry level camera or drone. Each trip cost $50-$500 from the UK and $800 - $1300 from the US. I hope it can inspire you to travel by spending less and create no matter what your situation is.
I’m a full time bomb tech, part time artist.
Sharing my photography and travels with caption on costs of the trips and gear I used, showing that anyone can create no matter what their day job.
