Amaze 2015 (Wood block test print #3, 48,6cm x 76.3cm, Dirk Marwig 2015 )
There is only 1 way to get to the centre right. Which one is it?
-This 'maze' is totally based on the "Golden Section". The "Golden Mean" is the little square on the bottom right.
*For those who are unfamiliar with the 'wood block print', the procedure is rather messy and boring. First of all you have to take your idea/design and mirror it then transfer it over to the wood, then you have to cut your idea/design into the surface of the wood -if you screw up you have to alter the design- pain in the butt. Once you are happy with it you have to apply 'relief ink' in the colour you choose without getting ink on 'unwanted' areas including your hands-I wear gloves). Then the hard part: making a clean print. I use a spoon and a silicone wedge to rub the surface of the paper. This takes about an hour or more depending on the size of the piece(this one is a larger format and has many lines so it took me 1 1/2 hours). If you make more than 4 prints you have to take off all of the ink(because of residue build up), clean the wood block and reapply the ink. This takes forever because you really have to clean all the edges well(messy).
But all in all it's an activity that lets you meditate a bit, so that's ok and the end result is satisfying(most of the time).
