East Java, Indonesia
Pictured here is the Kawah Ijen Volcano located in East Java, Indonesia. A couple years ago a friend and I set out on motorbikes to ride from Bali to Mount Bromo Tengger. The weather was not on our side during this voyage so we ended up just checking this place out before heading back to my friends house in Bali. The idea was to hike up to this place at night to see the "blue flame" but we woke up too late and ended up getting up here just as the sun was rising. To the right is the cloud of sulfuric gas coming from the crater and to the left is a combination of tourists and miners. The miners who work here hike up to here every day and breathe in this gas with no masks or protective gear of any kind. Their life expectancy is around 50 years and they do this for about $5 a day. Makes you think twice before complaining about how shitty your job is.
