we are admitted
they don’t know what they've introduced.
trapped in bubble of safety
you pace your perimeter like a tiger
while my thoughts fly into the window
seeking the magic dispersal of our borders.
at bedtime you lie, look and listen,
the glow of purple and green display lights
from the infusion pumps
that sing a quiet melody of rhythmic work
the soft buzz of air filters.
symbol of alien world or lullaby?
choosing lullaby, i follow its song.
rested and waking to sunlight,
you strain against your leash
like a willful puppy;
but then you become an astronaut
hooked to an air supply.
dancing in weightlessness,
i learn our new world.
