Shropshire - Settling Bess In
Following the arrival of Bess and trying to settle her in, we headed off to a tried and tested site in Shropshire for 24 nights (http://www.westleyhousefarm.co.uk/index.html), so bear with me, this blog is going to be long and contain a lot of Bess having accidents and us having a lack of sleep!
So it’s Saturday and gone are the days of a nice long lay in and cuddle with mummy! We were up early……very early! We did however go back to bed for a cuppa before getting on with the chores for the day. After all the chores, we headed to Pontesford Hill for one of our favourite walks, where daddy lost his bracelet. Silly daddy! To make the day worse, daddy got very stressed walking Bess loads before bed time and she wouldn’t poo, then she came back in and poo’d straight away. Kids eh?!!
Sunday was another early awakening by Bess, followed by a cuppa in bed. Daddy had to mend a leak on Pebbles and then we headed to Snailbeach Mine and walked the woods route.
There are some very friendly sheep on this walk. This lovely walk almost made up for Bess pooing in the middle of the night and peeing on our last clean dog bed! (These were new beds as a sweetener when we got Bess and now she’s ruined them all!)
Another early start and I think it’s taking its toll on Daddy. He was very grumpy working although he did cheer up when we went back to Pontesford Hill and he found his bracelet.
However it was very short lived, when he then reversed the car into the hedgerow which had a solid rock wall in it! On the way home we almost got run off the road twice as well, so we were very glad to get home, almost in one piece!
The day got much worse though as Bess pee’d on mum & dads bed! She looks so innocent doesn’t she!
Tuesday meant laundry day, following Bess’s accidents, so mummy was out for a long time, especially as the first launderette she went to didn’t have any water! Scratchy gave her lots of cuddles when she got home.
On Wednesday mummy was very tired, having tried a new tactic through the night. Every time Bess disturbed, instead of letting her use the training pads and then clearing it up, mummy rushed out of bed and took her outside. Jim thought this was great fun and he went too. I stayed in bed in the warm with daddy. This did result in no accidents overnight though which was great! We still went for a walk to Snailbeach though, even though mummy was tired, after all daddy wasn’t tired!
The view was lovely. When we got home though, it was a bad night. Bess had a bad tummy so mummy was up and down like a yoyo all night, cleaning up, taking her out, cleaning up! Not much sleep was had….well daddy seemed to get some!
After the eventful night with Bess’s tummy, we were very tired
Daddy decided we would still go out for a walk though and we went for a walk round Pontesford hill. I must explain the hills round here are quite steep and the climb up this one is hard work, so it was quite an achievement on very little sleep!
Look at her….she looks so innocent……I swear she is the devil child…..or at least a poo machine! She went to a new level today though…she chewed up mummy’s online banking key fob!
I think Jimmy is getting fed up as he even needed a cuddle today!
Jim really didn’t want to get up today, but it’s Saturday and we are off for a long walk round Long Mynd
Bess got really excited and chewed mummy’s sock!
On Sunday we headed to Stipperstones from Snaiilbeach. It is always miserable when we do this walk!
Then we headed back and polished Pebbles (first time since being on the road…oops!)
Monday wasn’t such fun. Jim started coughing and choking a lot, so off to the vets we went! He was treated for Kennel Cough…..how? We don’t do kennels!! The only thing we can think of, is Bess brought it over from Ireland. Yes, lets blame Bess haha!!
Then we went for a walk to Snailbeach to see the sheep. See, Jim wasn’t that bad really!
There was a lovely sunset. Things were looking good. Mummy even got a first proper cuddle from Bess.
Scratchy obviously didn’t want to miss out on cuddles!
Tuesday was a work day so I stayed in bed, having been up all night now, with Bess, for nearly 3 weeks!
Tuesday night daddy did his first night shift, but things were different! Mummy got up, got us all ready (well not me as I tended to stay in bed!), whilst daddy got himself ready. Then daddy would take them out for a walk, come in, mummy would sort Jim and Bess out, whilst daddy got back ready for bed, and then we all went back to bed. This is apparently called team effort. Mummy liked this new team effort. However, when it got to the 5/ 6am walk, daddy forgot that mummy had been up helping him all night, and just stayed in bed asleep whilst mummy did everything herself. So back to how it had been for the last 3 weeks then really, other than daddy is now getting up once or twice in the night and doing the walk. Mummy isn’t getting anymore sleep than she was before. Hmmmm…..not sure this team effort is working! Anyway it didn’t work as in the morning Bess pee’d on their bed again, so mummy was off to the launderette again! Then we went for a walk to Pontesford Hill, but only went round the bottom, and then Bess pee’d on the floor when we got home! When will she learn!
It’s now Thursday and we’ve had Bess for 3 weeks today, and boy it’s been a long 3 weeks! Daddy is still doing the night shift and sleeping through the early morning shift!
Today we went back to Snailbeach. It’s a good job we love these walks as we are too tired to go further afield at the moment!
Not only is it Friday today, it is also the 4th November, which means it will be a weekend of hell for us, due to Fireworks. We really hate them. In preparation, we went for a long walk round Pontesford Hill, then headed back in time to have our magic Adaptil, to make us less stressed. Then we had loud music playing to drown out the noises. Turns out Bess isn’t worried about them though, as she went for lots of walks and just watched them! Not sure what happened to Scratchy though as he had a bad tummy all night. Maybe he was scared too!
After a tiring night, we were up late and all very tired. We headed out to Corndon Hill for a long walk
Then we headed home for hot chocolate and cuddles. It was another bad night of fireworks though as the Eccles Caravan Owners Club Rally decided to let some fireworks off on site without warning anyone. I was not happy at all! Bess did give daddy a cuddle though.
After the stress of all the fireworks, we had a lazy day on site on Sunday and headed to bed early
On Monday, mummy was still very tired, but starting to appreciate the early wake up calls, with the beautiful sunrises
This is me and Jim giving our best unimpressed looks, before heading off to Pontesford for a walk. We are even sharing the one bed!
Tuesday was rubbish as Scratchy decided to be sick as well in the night. Really getting fed up of these disturbed nights now. At least I can sleep during the day! Although we did go for a walk to Pontesford.
Tuesday night was even worse though as mummy found out early Wednesday morning that Trump had won some election. She seemed very shocked which didn’t help with sleeping! Mummy did decide to be very brave though and buy us all new beds, as Bess had been good for a while now. Scratchy was first to try them out!
Jim decided he liked the small bed
So I had the big bed which I wasn’t going to share with anyone!
After another early wake up call on Thursday, we decided to go back to bed!
Even Scratchy joined us for a lie in!
Then we jumped in the car and headed to Pontesford Hill again
The weather was a bit mixed so we saw some lovely rainbows
This double was a real treat!
Then we went home to sleep!
Wahoo…its Friday and Bess slept all the way through till 6am….wahoo!!!
We were feeling so good we went for a lovely run around Snailbeach and then headed home….what a lovely day
Scratchy was enjoying some lovely snuggles when we got home.
Saturday equalled a lie in….for all of us, but only after a quick walk for Bess
Then we headed to Pontesford and mummy got the best photo of the 3 of us together, yet!
It’s now Sunday and one month exactly since we got Bess and she rewarded us with a good night. However, Jim wanted to go out at 6am instead!!!
So we headed out to Rodney’s Pillar for a nice long walk, but it was very busy! We managed to escape the crowds quite a bit, but that person to the right of the monument just would not move for mummy’s photo!
So it’s now Monday morning, it’s half way through November and the days are feeling really short now. Bess allowed us a lie in until 7am today which was great, however we needed to get up early as we are heading off today. After 24 nights in Shropshire we are heading back “home” for a while. Hopefully the move won’t upset Bess too much! Until next time, Love and Licks, Rosie xxxx
