The New Forest
It only took us 2 ½ hours to get to the New Forest, so we didn’t have to put up with stinky bum in the back with us for too long this time. We are trying out a camping in the forest site (http://www.campingintheforest.co.uk/england/new-forest/setthorns-campsite), and all seems good so far. There are lots of pitches and it seems very busy, which is a good sign. Mummy & daddy are trying out a more vegetarian diet at the moment, so this was daddy’s attempt at cauliflower cheese on a bed of kale and mushrooms and mummy thought it was fab.
Grandad was down doing maintenance on his boat, so we decided to pop along and surprise him…..luckily he had pretty much finished when we got there as standing around talking can be very boring for us! After grandad left, we went in search of ice creams but failed miserably. Daddy was most upset.
Today is Friday and one of our favourite days, as we normally get to sneak off early and start the weekend. Scratchy doesn’t like it though as it means we spend less time with him…haha!! I think he likes it here though, as he keeps watching the birds and squirrels out of the window.
I was right, we managed to sneak off at five and head to the beach at Barton on Sea. Its very pebbly and the tide was in so it wasn’t much fun, but we do like to be beside the seaside!!
On Saturday we were up early and went walking around the Forest. We went to Ober Water, which is mummy and daddy’s favourite place and where mummy took one of her “famous” pictures.
Daddy insisted we followed the river through the boggy ground and we had to keep jumping across spurs of the river. We came to one part and the only way across was to jump the main river but it was too wide and very deep by the opposite bank. Well, Jim got a bit excited and before we knew it he had tried to jump the river. He almost made it onto the opposite bank but slipped and scrambled and then fell into the deep river. He went completely under, but luckily he was on the lead so mummy pulled him back up and out to safety. Once he was back on dry land we could not stop laughing. Mummy was crying with laughter as Jim tried desperately to shake all the river water off of him. I don’t think he liked us all laughing and so started to have one of his coughing/choking fits to try and make us feel bad, but it didn’t work. We had to walk for hours till he dried off! We came across lots of ponies on our walk.
Then we went home via Ringwood brewery so daddy could get a keg of beer and then try and make vegetable lasagne. Scratchy was pleased to see us home though. Here he is squeezing in between Itchy’s cushion and mummy’s chair, trying to get a cuddle!
On Sunday, Scratchy was keen to see the birds so sneaked the curtains open. He can be quite cute sometimes, I have to admit!
Then we decided to walk to Ober Water from the campsite, as it turned out, it was only a few miles away! Whilst we were out walking we saw some other dogs. Now I’m kept under close supervision when other dogs are involved as I like to tell them what I think of them, however Jim has a bit more free reign, so he was sniffing this other dog who was off the lead. Then out of nowhere, this dog started attacking Jim. I was so cross, I tried to help him but mummy kept me away as it was quite a big dog. Luckily mummy’s shouting scared the other dog away, but mummy was really cross as the other dogs owner just totally ignored what had just happened and just kept walking. How rude, Jim could’ve been hurt and he didn’t care. Some people really shouldn’t be allowed dogs if they don’t know good dog etiquette. For a start we were on the lead! Anyway, mummy eventually calmed down and we carried on our walk. When we were nearly back Jim chased some birds and his lead snapped. What a day. Daddy had to hold him on a fixed line all the way back home, which wasn’t too far luckily! This is the main bridge looking out to the river.
This was a different bridge we found, but it wasn’t as pretty as the main one.
When we got home scratchy was desperate for some attention, but I was having a cuddle with mummy
So Scratchy had to resort to daddy’s lap. Neither of them were very happy about that hehe!!
As a treat on our last night, we went to the beach again, this time heading to Milford on Sea to see the beach huts mummy “famously” photographed before some of them were destroyed in the Valentines Day storm in 2014.
This is them at sunset, they are so beautiful
Although me and Jim were more interested in playing ball than looking at sunsets! It was quite hard work playing on the pebbles. I did find a fishing hook though, which tasted nice but hurt a lot. Luckily mummy told me to leave it as I don’t think eating it would’ve been much fun.
And, so we are off again, on another adventure. Until next time, love & licks, Rosie xxxx
