Unexpectedly Wild Camping – with Nanny
Having left Moorcroft on North Uist, we headed to Lochmaddy to catch the ferry back to Uig, on Skye. Mummy & Daddy were very sad about leaving. We thought we were running late, but there was no sign of the ferry when we got there. We all hoped it had been cancelled.
Unfortunately, it arrived, and when we got on the ferry, daddy decided to console himself with Mac n Cheese, and a carb overload!
Meanwhile we slept and I tried not to creep over onto the carpeted area, as that is outside of the pet area. I wouldn’t do that, would I?....
Once we arrived on Skye things were a lot busier. We were heading to a well-known site just off of Skye, but when mummy called them to let them know we had just got off the ferry so might be a few minutes late. They told mummy not to bother as we would never make it. They only had one late night arrival pitch and as nanny was still with us, they didn’t have room for us both. So they cancelled our bookings. Panic ensued, and mummy waved nanny down to explain the situation and it was agreed we would wild camp instead. There were some lovely wild camping spots on Skye, but mummy and daddy decided to keep going to get as far as possible before we lost the light. Turns out we would’ve made the campsite too……never mind……saved us campsite fees!
We found a spot that was big enough for us both and slightly set back from the road. We set up and then daddy was getting changed when all these sirens and flashing lights appeared and stopped right by the layby. We started to panic and daddy got dressed quickly, but turns out we hadn’t done anything wrong! Three very large lorries came through carrying the three arms of a very large wind turbine. Phew, we were ok! So we had a quick dinner and an early night as we all wanted to be on the road early in the morning as nanny was heading home. It was a good job we wanted to get up early as we got rudely awoken by people going passed beeping at 6:30….I was trying to sleep, don’t they know! When we got outside we also realised the error of our ways, as we had parked by woodland, thinking it would give us shelter…..what it actually gave us was a lot of midgies. Oh dear and nanny couldn’t find her midgy net. Oops!
So we said our goodbyes to nanny, Harley & Belle, and we headed off for another adventure hopefully away from the midgies. Until next time, love & licks, Rosie xxx
