A Hundred and One…
Yesterday afternoon more Cranes flew high overhead on their migratory route from North Africa to the Brenne, a region of more than a thousand man-made lakes situated just twenty kilometres from where I live in central France. Cranes - Grus grus - are large land and marsh birds standing almost 4ft tall and have been arriving here since Christmas Day, which is unusually early in the season and possibly due to climate change.
Here I took a photo with a 70-200mm Nikkor at around 100mm just as a jet passed overhead at 39,000 ft leaving a contrail in the blue sky… on checking the “Flight Radar 24” app on my iPad I saw it was a Norwegian Air Boeing 737-8JP en route from London to Palma de Mallorca. So, a silver bird in the sky going one way, and a hundred others going the other way… and probably escaping all the holiday-makers!
