"Le Tricolore"
“Bleu, blanc et rouge” the colours of the French flag, le tricolore, painted today from an overnight idea using some of the flour sacks I found at my local Boulangerie. Briefly, from history books I remember France being called “The bread basket of Europe” because of its fertile plains, well watered by many long, flowing rivers, all helped by a temperate climate... so I thought to use three off these large brown paper bags as the basic support for the nationalistic red, white and blue paint treatment. I may have to turn the outer ends back a bit because the official proportions of le drapeau français* are 3:2, although this wider artwork would be more appropriate representing the French navy where the flag is slightly longer to account for the optical effect of the blue appearing larger being mounted next to a halyard. A fascinating history of the changes to le drapeau français* can be read here on Wiki.
- The French word for "French" when used as an adjective is never spelled with capital letter.
