The Great American Eclipse of 2017: Totality (first photo) and one or two seconds after (second photo), when the first sliver of the sun appeared again. The overwhelming majority of people try to take close-ups of the event using long lenses and solar filters. After having experienced the eclipse of August 11th, 1999 just outside Paris, France, I knew well in advance that I'd leave that style of photo to others and try to plan a shot that revealed the wider scene. The quality of light and shadows all around you changes dramatically over the course of 10 minutes, and I wanted to try to capture that. My friend and his co-pilot meticulously researched airports within the path of totality along with weather forecasts, and on the morning of the eclipse we decided on the Lebanon Municipal Airport in Lebanon, Tennessee. We made the right choice, and were rewarded with one of the most astonishing sights we humans can ever witness. I can't recommend it enough. #eclipse #solareclipse #eclipse2017 #greatamericaneclipse #totality #diamondring #lebanonTN #lebanontennessee #landscape #nikon #d800 #24mm #nikkor @ellonikon @ellophotography @ellolandscape
