Art is not a mirror held up to reality but a hammer with which to shape it.
BERTOLT BRECHT
Not For Print Issue 02 — Resist seeks submissions that challenge today’s status quo, move beyond the obvious and become “the mirror of our betrayed ideals” and “the hammer with which to shape” a better reality.
Here and now, more than ever, we need the artists, designers, creators, the thinkers — the doers. We need to lead with work and ideas that challenge unacceptable social norms and that reflect the world we wish to see and experience for generations to come. When Ello says Resist, we mean that together we possess the power to act as gatekeepers of a better vision, a vision to withstand and to serve as proof against the people, ideas and movements that draw us backwards rather than propel us forwards.
We need not accept ill conceived thoughts, ideas and policies. We need not comply with the powers that be. We must rise up and resist the temptations of complacency to build the inclusive and prosperous future we desire.
Art is the Mirror of our betrayed ideals.

Selection Process
Our curatorial team will repost select submissions from the @notforprint page. Starting April 22, 2017 our panel of judges will choose 50 winners, to be announced May 9, 2017. We will be featuring an additional artist and selecting a special image for a second cover – stay tuned.
The Curators
Joanne Leah (@joanneleah)
By freeing ourselves from the constraints of physicality, we vividly bend and lurch into new structures. I continually experiment with engaging in methods of bodily detachment. The images themselves become proof of this vulnerable act, between skin and viscera, exhibitionist and voyeur, public and private. I am interested in relationships of contradiction and the beautiful monotony of inhabiting our bodies while simultaneously trying to escape them.
Jordan Alan Brown (@jordan-alan-brown)
I am a man. I am a cactus. I am the soft edges of an otherwise jagged shoreline. I explore the emotional depths of the human condition using my own experiences that highlight my vulnerability in pieces about family, faith, guilt, hopelessness, desire to understand love, among other personal struggles. I incorporate original photographs with my writings to add another layer of honesty and emotion. Through the scope of mixed media, I attempt to capture, for a moment, the sensuality of feeling bare.
Kai, Svend and Steffen of eBoy (@eboy)
eBoy is Kai Vermehr, Steffen Sauerteig and Svend Smital. We create re-usable pixel objects and take them to build complex and extensible artwork.
WeTransfer’s Deputy Editor Suzanne Tromp (@wetransfer)
Together with the rest of the editorial team, I’m responsible for curating the art that appears on WeTransfer’s backgrounds. I am also Deputy Editor of our blog This Works, where we highlight the stories behind the artists we feature on the wallpapers.”
