Today would have been the 90th birthday of the great Brazilian pianist, composer and songwriter Antonio Carlos Jobim. Known as Tom to his many fans around the world, he was the prime force behind the bossa nova explosion of the 1960's, writing many memorable songs including "The Girl From Ipanema", "Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)" and "Desafinado". In 1965 his album with Stan Getz, "Getz/Gilberto" featuring the wonderful vocalist and guitarist Joao Gilberto, was the first jazz album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. From that record, here is the beautiful "So Danco Samba".
Happy birthday, Tom, in jazz heaven!
