My procedural culture generation tool is making progress! It's not as fast since I've been on the hunt for a new job, but now that that's looking more solid, I'm coming back to it.
The tool can be found here: https://sleepy-stream-9177.herokuapp.com/
This allows you to manually add a region, assign some cells to it (by clicking on the color map), and then generate keywords for it.
The big part that's still missing is the automated region detection. This isn't an easy problem, especially as I've defined my data, but there's a few algorithms that are showing promise. The one I'll try first is to find local extremes, then flood-fill from them.
Once that's done, the tool as a prototype will be successful. I can then start making it work for real, including letting people supply their own maps over which region data gets displayed.
I recently got Worlds in Peril, a superhero game using the Apocalypse World rules. I'm not normally a fan of character classes in supers, but I'll see how it works out. I've had all of one session with a *W game and I'm interested in seeing more.
