I have not tried to do anything like this but since I am finally back in a game, and this seems like a thing to do, I will now write about our exploits.
The name and setting of the game is Pathfinder, the location the city of Halgrim, in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. My thiefling rogue, Alexite, ran there after accidentally robbing a Cheliax noble, who had shady connections, and ending up with a silver bracelet which is stuck on his arm.
Basically three things happened:
+ first we stalked two thugs who, it turned out, had made a successful heist in the city. The chumps were delivered to to the watch afterwards. No big deal.
+ A Scientist(?) named Boris wanted to get some samples taken from the ice around the island. He wanted t find out whether such a thing as an “Ice Elemental” could exist, and his expedition needed bodyguards. At the first sample-point we found a weird object in the ice. The next day near the second point however, we were ambushed. These guys were prepared: white leather armor to blend in on the ice, swords treated to prevent shine, even firebombs to prevent getting captured alive. During the aftermath, we found octopus tattoos on the bodies indicating that they were part of “Sons of the Kraken”, a group of pirates and other criminals. Boris the Scientist had an interesting reaction to the attack(ers). Namely, running straight back to the city and getting on the first boat out of there.
+ After laying low for a couple of days after the attack, we met a group of bounty hunters who let us travel with them to the city of Orcmoot.
The session was all in all, a slow start, but the GM promised that he would have something more ready for the next time. Still, not bad for literally walking in and ask, “got room for one more?”.
