Ello everyone! This week was quite interesting for us. Our daily posts we found were quite fun to do, but we're still attached to the weekly posts. Who knows? Maybe we'll find time in the future to combine the two and provide twice the reviews per week.
But for now, we'll try to stick with the weeklies, and this week in honor of the 4th of July (for those international viewers that haven't cared until now, it's the day that the U.S.A. declared freedom from England), we're giving you 2 lemons this week!
AND AWAAAAYYY WE GO!
Dungeon Time: A Cooperative Real Time Fantasy Card Game - Are you brave enough to accept the #dungeon #challenge? A real time, #co-op #card #game of exciting #adventures and catastrophic failures.
Congrats to Ares Games for producing this fast paced, dungeon style, entertainment. It certainly looks like a great game that people could enjoy over and over again or a way to fill in the time between setting up larger scale games (lookin' at you Twilight Imperium). So Kudos! We're looking forward to seeing this in the local game shop soon.
The campaign is still going so there's time to grab a spot on the "early bird special" list. The campaign has already raised $18,985 and are projected to reach $75,940 by the end of its run. Looking in the description shows that there are 2 more stretch goals to unlock, so go help them out.
FIRST UP ON THE WANTED LIST:
Secret Directive: A spy-themed board game - A tense and dramatic #spy game, with players desperately subverting each other while furthering their own ends.
So spy movies have always interested us. Spy games, doubly so. This one is no exception. Despite the fact that there's a 15 yr old, in his fathers suit, pitching this game in an accent that switches from Irish to Scottish to Pirate, we're still interested in this game. The rest of the description below the video is pretty rock solid.
The campaign for this game has made $2,816 of $16,500 & there's still 27 days left. With your help, the kid on summer vacation will be able to start mass production and get this game to you. Instead of just hoping this game will succeed, go help make sure it becomes a reality.
Burgers & Beasts - Burgers & Beasts is a family game where players create burgers to feed their fantasy-style adventurers and battle the oncoming beasts!
The video is quite farcical and doesn't really explain anything on how the game actually works, but the description paints a lovely picture of what to expect when you play this gem of a game. So if you're hungry for a game that mixes it up (sorry, cheap shot, we had to take it), then this game might be what you crave (again, sorry).
The campaign for this game is not looking too good at the moment. With 19 days to go they've only raised $1,611 of $18,000 which puts them at 8% of their goal. The campaign is half over and they haven't even reached 10%. We need to help this campaign out. A chance for a fun, creative, family friendly game is about to slip through the cracks. Lets keep that from happening.
LAST ON THE WANTED LIST:
Hipsters and Hamsters - An easy-to-learn, deceptively strategic card game for individuals or teams. A fast-paced filler for game groups or family game night.
This game almost won lemon of the week based on the title. As #NERDS, we take high offense to those that would #pose as nerds to simply fit into the #mainstream of #popular #culture, in other words, we can't stand #HIPSTERS! Alas, after watching the intro and reading the description, we found that this game not only looked fun, but has great replay-ability.
This campaign has only been active for 4 days, but in that time has reached $1,150 of their $9,750 goal. So it's looking pretty good for anyone who was hoping to add this to their ever growing collection of board games that fill their closet, so much so, that they have room for only 4 t-shirts and 2 pair of jeans, which is fine, cause their wardrobe isn't that important as long as all the naughty stuff is covered.
Whatever you may be thinking, we totally own more than 4 t-shirts. crickets AHEM! Ok, on to...
THE LEMON(S) OF THE WEEK:
Trump Trumps - The depressingly inevitable battle-of-ignorance game, pitting Donald Trump's worst sides against himself. Comes with free Trump masks!
So the intro video is obviously a joke. With the guy and his cat lobbying for #cash, it couldn't possibly be real. Oh wait, this apparently is a genuine attempt to get people to pay money for what appears to be a terrible game. Not only is it a topical game (of which we've sworn off, but like smokers, keep coming right back), it is also #political, of which we don't care to discuss because there's always someone with a different opinion, and we (like most #Americans) don't like that. So they've managed to combine 2 of the worst things in the world and turn it into something that's should never see the light of day and should be buried under the place where the Ark of the Covenant rests, or dropped down the ravine where the Holy Grail fell in Indiana Jones.
We almost forgot the Trump masks! Oh wow! Yeah so these things are terrible, haunting, and a little unnerving! Just watch the video and revel in the #horribleness that is this game pitch.
Fortuntely, this game is not doing well in the #polls (oh, the cheap shots today). It looks to only raise 17% of it's original goal, which is something that we can honestly say, doesn't hurt our feelings.
LEMON #2 AND LAST OF THE DAY:
Merica the Debate - #Merica the Debate is a card game where you debate your friends on #ridiculous issues in a race to be the #President Elect. Suggested 18+
What better way to say #American Pride, than by simply shouting "MERICA!" ? Not only is this game "topical adjacent" but it is a poor idea to put people in a room and have them debate "for fun" about the things they probably hold in high regard, only to have someone else tell them, "No, you're an idiot." The intro looks like it had a bit of time spent on it, which is a good thing, but the concept is just bad. We agree that the system could use improvement (a LOT of improvement), but that should be addressed in a letter to the governor, not in a place of #fun and #adventure-making!
This campaign has 13 days left and looks to only reach 8% of it's goal by the end. So with any luck, it'll stay that way.
We hope you enjoyed this weeks review and as always, until next time...
Keep leveling up, NERDS!
