Good Moring it's is eight mintues past midnight and I am home from my Friday night game.
So what to say, it's an investigative game...this means I get to play my nerd character Jack (Monkey Boy) Shite.
Yes, yes I know corny name, but hey I don't care.
I have already given you guys a run down on the the fact that it's a science fiction game, but it's the frist time. I have had a chance to play a game where things like computer hacking, engineering have come in useful. The fact that we have had down times enough for Jack to run up and recover data while the rest of the team does thier thing is really quite fun.
The only other character I have had do this was an old shadowrun decker and only because my GM at the time was a uni-student and unemployed so he had time to naff around with decker stuff outside game; My current GM he's able to do some of this on the fly which is awesome.
I took paranoid as one of my negatives which has been great, I get to voice all the crazy arse schemes in my head to the players. So every time someone comes up with an explanation I have some crazy answer, and the best bit so far has been that some of my crazy answers have been true while the other players have been wrong. Only making Jack more and more extreme in his plans this along with my characters nosey negative has me causing the pilot to shake his head, the combat wally just wondering why he's not hiding in a bomb shelter waiting for the end of days, and our social character just starting to hate how often Monkey Boy is right.
Along with this he's a scrounger and a bit callous, I am looking forward to the game night I get to pick bits of dead guy off an item I want.
Truely I am not fully into character yet, but I am enjoying the random paranoid conspiracy details I can come up with.
On a side note the players just looked in shock when we found a limpet mine attached to the hull of our ship, and all I did was joyfully go on about how cool it is that these items are designed to blow a shaped charge hole through the hull. Then handed the unbeknownst to them disarmed mine to the pilot and told him to chuck it off the ship. Ha! I got to love this character, he also has clueless as a negative which means he's really not overly social, so making dumb ass comments will come up eventually.
The challenge now is to bring him whole to life as a usefull in an grossly disturbing way while the players around him get the more interesting things down. (Well interesting as a active player, I am trying to play one of those support characters that does things from where he can.)
Again I got my favorite comment of all time, one of the players said. "I am starting to dislike the character for his odious personal habits, which again just shows how well you play the character."
Maybe it's me but I do love putting personality into my characters while still making them playable and useful to the game. It's sometimes hard work but I don't play for the loot, I play for the characters.
Unlike my other games, this group tend to be more dice and technical than other games. I am ok with this I try to lead by example when it comes to my character. I roleplay him and let the other players bounce off me.
Anyways, enough for tonight I have to sleep and get ready for the next game today in the afternoon.
