Out of Nowhere
In 1979, this was a small market town on the Chinese border with Hong Kong. Mainly farmland. Thirty six years later, it's home to over 10.6 million people, including "the Hat" (aka LiQing). It has literally sprung up from nothing in a very short period of time. By comparison, New York City's population is 8.5 million.
It's a huge city. This photo is just a small slice of the panorama you can see from Shenzhen Lianhuashan Park, located in the center of the city. That odd looking curvy thing in the middle is the City Hall and Civic Center.
