TOKYO WAS MINE
is my first photo zine.
This project is now on Kickstarter! I am happy about any support
This publication contains a collection of 58 mostly minimalistic and architectural photos on 80 pages that were taken between 2016-2019 during my time living in Tokyo, Japan.
The title “TOKYO WAS MINE ” is inspired by a street art project, “Tokyo is Yours”
The idea of putting all these photos together came rather spontaneously earlier this year. As I was going through my files, I noticed just how much my photography style was shaped by the city and the events I experienced there. I recalled all the ups and downs: having the time of my life with the people I love, but also periods of doubt and depression.
In the beginning my photography was mostly desaturated, either very dark or bright or dominated by the color grey, but TOKYO WAS MINE displays these photos adjusted with low contrast and strong colors, while still maintaining their original traits.
With the exception of printing, I have completed everything, from photography and layout to text and publishing, by myself.
TOKYO WAS MINE will be available by the middle of July 2020 with a First Edition of 250 copies.
Exhibitions, with a selection of 20 images, are planned to be held by the end of 2020 in Germany and in the beginning of 2021 in Tokyo.
I hope this project will serve as an extension of my deep connection with Tokyo.
