Meet Tomas Saraceno An Argentina born and Berlin based artist that was trained as an architect.
For his fifth solo show at New York’s Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, AD Innovator Tomás Saraceno presents new architectural works, finding inspiration in the biological sciences and science fiction.
Saraceno fills the dark space with clear boxes holding intricate webs. To construct one of these works, he places spiders inside a cube, waits for them to start spinning webs, then rotates the cube to change the orientation of gravity, similar to flipping an hourglass. The result is an unusual web that would not be found in nature. Saraceno complements these pieces with an audio work based on vibrations, which spiders use for communication across their webs.
The result is hauntingly beautiful sculptural installations that fuse science and art.
